TexCon is pleased to include Texas City in our service area. The homeowners of Texas City display a clear pride in their homes and properties, and it has been our experience that many residents are eager to increase the value of their homes and neighborhoods with upgrades. Some of the most influential exterior upgrades revolve around our favorite building material: concrete!

As the area’s trusted concrete supplier, TexCon provides a variety of concrete options to homeowners. We can honestly say that we have never installed exactly the same design at any two Texas City homes. The amount of customization available comes as a surprise to many people who are simply used to driving through their neighborhoods and seeing row upon row of concrete driveway. To make your home really stand out from the crowd, and in the best way possible, we recommend a custom driveway.

Custom concrete driveways can be stamped to look as though they incorporate bricks, stones or tiles. Areas can also be left flat, without any stamping. Colored concrete is a great way to spice up any concrete surface, including driveways, for about the same budget. However, once you start considering all of the different color options, you’ll probably get excited about having a stamped concrete driveway too!

The powdered colorant is added to the batch mixers at our concrete plant for even distribution. This is called “integral” color because the powder becomes part of the concrete batch itself, and is therefore permanent. The concrete based can be composed of slightly lighter cement-like materials in order to really make the color pop.

Because the stamps and overlays provide a fully textured surface, with the normal valleys seen in bricks, rocks or tiles, depth is added to the concrete via a darker colorant. The addition of this colorant really brings the whole design together, making it look like true stone or brick. But the process doesn’t have to end there. In fact, individual tiles can be painted with an acid wash to make them stand out in the pattern. Or the entire driveway can be painted in an acid wash for a shiny surface. Finally, a sealant is added to keep all of the additional colorant locked in. The sealant will also prolong the life of the concrete and make it easier to maintain in the long run.

The same principles for a customized driveway apply to any other exterior renovation, including patios, pool decks, sidewalks, courtyards, porches and more. Concrete can also be used to improve the visual appeal of landscaping, such as by adding a retaining wall or by creating a border around flower beds. Concrete can even be used to create a pond bed, and this is the perfect time to use a stone stamp for a luxurious look. Fire pits and covered outdoor dining or entertainment areas can also be spruced up with custom concrete. And did you know that the siding of your home can be concrete stamped to look like brick or stone too? Indeed, concrete is an affordable way to achieve the home of your dreams.
